Paw Issues

Your pup can suffer from a variety of paw issues. Here are some of the more common causes of dog paw ailments:

  • Allergies: Just like us, dogs can suffer from environmental allergies. Resulting in a dog itching, biting, licking, and chewing on their paws in an attempt for relief. However, excessive and repeated actions like these can lead to injury and infection.

  • Fungal and Bacterial Issues: Let’s face it, your dog’s paws are in every type of terrain. This can result in your dog’s paws becoming home to bacteria and fungi Which can lead to an infection.

  • Cuts and Abrasions: Unless your dog wears booties all the time, s/he is at risk for paw cuts, abrasions, and lacerations from things found on the ground. Small rocks, sticks, broken glass, and debris can cause cuts and tears in your dog’s paw pads.

  • Dry and Cracked Paw Pads: Just like your feet, your pup can get dry and cracked pigs. Their weight forcing down on their feet when they walk and jump, and their pads absorb the impact, and scuffs from rough textures. Also, unlike you, dogs sweat through their paw pads. This can lead to paw licking. Which can lead to drying… And eventually cracking.

How to Use CBD for Pawfect Paws

While there are numerous over-the-counter paw balms that claim to help heal dog’s paws, they do not contain the healing associated with CBD. For dogs that suffer cuts or abrasions, CBD’s painkilling properties can clearly help your pup. Unlike hydrocortisone, CBD-based products will not make your dog’s skin vulnerable to infection or thinning.

Due to skin having endocannabinoid receptors (source), CBD is a natural go-to when your dog’s paws are dry and cracked. CBD will work on the problem, not mask it. CBD also has natural antimicrobial properties (source), which comes in very handy if your pup has a paw infection.

In a similar vein, researchers have found that CBD can induce anti-itch effects and advance healing. This is why it is used to treat eczema and psoriasis in humans (source). When applied on dogs, CBD interacts with their skin to combat dryness, itching, infection, and inflammation, which means you will have a healthier, happier dog!

Oh, and even if your pet doesn’t have paw issues you can still them give them CBD for it’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties to further enhance the natural protectiveness of your pup’s paw pads.

CBD is amazing – and that’s why we wanted to share our little secret of how it can help your dog’s paw pads.

p.s. If your dog’s paws routinely bleed off and on, we advise you to see a vet. While rare, paw bleeding can be an indication of Lupus. Your vet will conduct a Lupus plug test and work with a specialized lab for results.
